| Air Ballooning is the oldest flight technology for carrying people into the air. Today it is a popular sport. The first hot air balloon dates back to 1783, when the Montgolfier brothers made their first attempt at bringing people to Paris in a hot air balloon.
Air Ballooning is a technique by which hot air balloons are propelled into the air. These are also called airships. The hot air balloon has a bag or envelope that can hold air that has been heated. Beneath this contraption is a basket made of wicker. The heat producing equipment warms the air which is within the envelope and around it sufficiently to keep the whole contraption along with its passengers in the air. Hot air balloons are different from gas balloons as the envelope is not sealed at the lower end. The air that is heated up rises and puts pressure on the upper part of the balloon causing it to ascend and lift off. Nowadays the balloons are usually made of nylon and the opening which is closer to the flame is made of inflammable material that is fire resistant. The envelopes for balloons come in various shapes and sizes like rocket ships, hot dogs and even faces of politicians!
Air Ballooning has become a popular sport and there are Balloon Festivals where participants make their own coloorful balloons. These festivals usually take place during summer time. These races can be a lot of fun for the whole family if rules are followed. |
